There are a number of activities that the Hatchery
needs help with on an ongoing basis. Without volunteers,
it would be impossible to carry out many of our
objectives. Below is a description of activities that
volunteers can get involved in: |
- Sponsorship and Promotion – will organize, develop and
implement, sponsorship, promotion or fundraising projects.
- Education – will promote awareness of fisheries
management through community projects, education programs
and provide and organize seminars to promote interest in
aquaculture. Training sessions and seminars will focus on
items of interest to both adult and children.
- Building and Equipment – will be responsible for the
maintenance and safekeeping of the Hatchery building and
maintenance of any equipment owned by the Hatchery.
- Hatchery Operations and Fish Management – look after the
day-to-day functioning of fish culture in the Hatchery.
- Membership and Volunteers – will work towards gaining
new volunteers, while sustaining current members using
various communication tools such as newsletters etc.
- Public Relations and Communications – will organize a
range of public events throughout the year and will provide
a liaison with the members and the general public on behalf
of NHCFH
- Finance Committee – will review the financial policies
of the organizations, oversee the operations of the
organization’s bank accounts, investments and organize and
oversee the preparation of the annual financial statements
of the Hatchery. This group will ensure our federal
charitable status is maintained and that the Hatchery
remains eligible for OFAH insurance.
- Community Fisheries Assessment Program – this area will
consist of members participating in the community fisheries
assessment program along with OMNR employees. This involves
netting fish, using MNR protocols to determine the number of
fish, the size of the fish and collecting tissue samples
for DNA analysis.
